Revisiting The Natural Roots With A Kayak

By Sandra Hughes

Early man either lived in caves or was nomadic. Eventually, man discovered that the world around it could be shaped into sufficient shelter. But with that shelter came a loss of connection to the natural world. But man can reconnect with the natural, can reconnect with is primal instinct, but to do so with a modern twist. For those that do, there is a wide selection of Hobie kayaks ready to take the modern caveman back in time in style.

Before modernity, or even antiquity, man was connected with nature. Ancient religions worshipped nature spirits. Even before that, man was no different than any other primate. Of course, man evolved further. Brains became more developed over time and the opportunities for exploitation that had always been present were suddenly noticed.

But exploiting the resources the planet presented also led to being disconnected from the rest of it. Man was once just another link in the food chain. Then man started altering food chains permanently, hunting many predator animals to extinction, then domesticating others and turning them into pets. The old order was gone completely. Humankind had created a new one more convenient to it.

But all is not lost. There are those in society who see the value of keeping what is left of the environment as pristine as can be. There are also those seek to find new ways of creating energy without tearing the planet apart. Then there are those who still like being outdoors, who like being surrounded by nature.

Ancient civilizations were built on the banks of rivers. When humans first settled into agricultural societies, rivers provided a source of drinking water, and also water for the crops that needed to be grown. Rivers continue to be a source of many recreational activities even in the modern era.

Choosing a kayak only seems like an easy task on the surface, but that is only on the surface. There are some many outdoor sporting companies and many of them offer a wide range of products for all kayaking needs. The surest way to find one is, well, look at how you are willing to spend and ask what you need one for. A pedal powered fishing kayak is great, but it may not be perfect for white water rafting.

Whitewater kayaking is an outdoor sport in which a person goes kayaking down a whitewater river. It is supposed to be a fun activity, one that involved a lot of adrenaline. But, it is also dangerous. White water only appears white because it is moving so fast.

Another activity people use kayaks for fishing. Most of the time, fishing is done on the shore. When it is done in the middle of the water, most people opt for a boat, going into deep water to catch the kind of fish that do not stray to shore. But some people can use a kayak, but not in the deepwater.

Some things never die, and that includes the love of the outdoor. Many people love going outdoors for recreational activity. The outdoors can be scary, but it can also be tamed.
