Is It Worth It To Buy A Bow String Silencer?

By Roger Murphy

Much of the time, silencers are associated with slowing down the speed of the arrow being shot and reducing its overall force. However, this is not the case with many of the silencers that are available today due to the way that they are designed. Bowhunters can now reap the benefits of a bow string silencer and still be able to take down the biggest and most challenging game.

Any experienced bowhunter knows the discomfort and inconvenience that the repeated vibrations from firing bows causes, especially over a long period of time. The rattling and slapping of the weapon can not only alert the hunter's game of his or her presence, but can also cause injuries over time. Silencers alleviate this issue by reducing the vibrations.

Any hunter who has ever had the misfortune of shooting an animal but not killing it knows the bad feeling inside that this brings. Animals who are injured by hunters generally have to suffer in a slow death because as long as they are able, they will run away. This is often caused by an animal jumping or moving at the last second before a shot is fired, and an unsilenced weapon can easily be the culprit.

It is true that people before now have gotten along just fine without silencers for their bows, but as these weapons become more and more technologically advanced, the need for these add-ons becomes more necessary. The reason for this is because these more advanced bows tend to make more noise. Generally, the more intricate the design, the louder it will be.

Some hunting trips can turn out to be a waiting game that can last hours on end, in order to wait out the specific desired game. After all that careful planning and effort, it is a terrible waste to have the shot lined up and the target gets away because of a snapping bowstring. That is why most hunters say that they don't want to take any chances, and that silencers are worth it to have.

Even the best silencers don't work well if they are not installed properly. Sometimes it is a good idea to take the bow to a professional so he or she can make sure that everything is put together in the right way. Other times, there are videos on the Internet that explain how to install it in great detail and in a way that is easy to understand.

When reading reviews for the different kinds of silencers to see which one would work best on a particular bow model, there are certain qualities to look for in users' reviews to help make this decision. Some important factors are what percentage of the noise or vibrations the silencer eliminates. Also important is how long the attachment can be expected to last.

The people who say that silencers are unnecessary often point out that they don't completely silence the weapon. The popular argument goes that even though some of the noise is cut down, the remaining noise will still scare away the animals. However, many hunters are of the opinion that reducing some of the noise improves a person's chances.
