Basics About Massachusetts Scuba Divers

By Donald Thomas

Underwater diving involved more than one mode. One of those modes is called scuba diving and it involved the diver being able to breath while under water. They do this by carrying breathing gadgets on their backs. This ability to breath from breathing gadgets makes this mode of diving different from other modes. Other modes involved breath-holding and breathing through a pipe protruding on the surface. Breathing equipment stores air in a compressed form and it is released in regulated amounts. Massachusetts scuba divers represent some of the top divers in the world.

The purpose of breathing equipment is to extend the endurance level of the diver under water. They also provide a greater degree of freedom of movement. There are three main categories of diving equipment. These three categories are open-circuit, closed-circuit, and semi-closed circuit. Open circuit devices are designed in a way that all air the diver exhales is removed from the gadget into the surrounding water. Conversely, closed-circuit devices, there is recycling and reuse of exhaled air. The device has mechanisms for removing carbon dioxide from exhaled air and retaining oxygen for rebreathing.

Divers have fins attached to their feet to provide forward movement. However, if faster or more power is needed for movement, a diver may carry a diver propulsion vehicle. Sleds pulled from the surface may also achieve the same effect when moving up back to the surface of the water.

Several other devices are available for divers to bring along when they dive. Vision underwater is improved by wearing dive masks. Injury from various sources such as water turbulence and water organisms is prevented by wearing a protective suit. Movement under water is made easier by wearing a device that controls buoyancy. There are different applications that require specific pieces of equipment.

Scuba divers are comprehensively trained before they can qualify to dive. All the skills and knowledge they need is encompassed in the training offered. There are different certification levels for varying skill levels. With the training, they know how to operate and handle equipment while diving. They also know how to deal with general hazardous occurrences under water.

Similarly, there is training for emergency situations that one may employ to help themselves or other divers who may be experiencing problems with their equipment. Training organizations impose certain health and fitness requirements that trainers must meet for them to be trained and allowed to dive. Applications differ in the level of fitness they require for one to safely dive.

Several applications involve people engaging in scuba diving for either professional or recreational reasons or both. Recreational diving is for enjoying and having fun. It entails several technical disciplines which include ice diving, cave diving, deep diving, and wreck diving. Many recreational diving communities have been established and they hire diving instructors. These communities have many job positions including dive guides, assistant instructors, divemasters, and instructors.

Military diving is also a specialty in scuba diving. Military frogmen play various roles in combat operations. Some of the roles they play include direct combat, installation of mines, disarmament of mines, infiltration behind enemy lines, engineering operations, bomb disposal, and use of manned torpedos. Police departments also maintain teams for deep diving to participate in search operations.
