Some of these are helmets, shin guards, eye protection, gloves, mouthpieces, footwear, gum shields, shoulder pads and many others that fail to fit in this list.

Protective clothes are aimed at shielding the players from the risks of any accident causing injury. These injuries occur mainly due to the contact that take place between players. At times, these impacts are due to the player and the accessories such as the goal posts and the bats, colliding. Different games have the different risk of injuries with those like rugby and car racing being viewed as some of the most injury prone sporting activities.

The most common injuries in sports are bone fracture and sprains. There also are increased cases of joint dislocations. Additionally, there are those that have been specially designed using unique methods to protect the most fragile parts of the bodies like the eyes and the ears.

Helmets are head-protecting gear. They are typically worn in games where there is a likelihood of impacts between players. Such sports include cycling, rugby, baseball and several others. Despite the significant aspect of this protective equipment, most people mostly refrain from putting them on as it feels uncomfortable.

There are specific mouth protection known as the mouth guard that are used mainly to protect the teeth from impact in the event of a collision. Such contact may also cause injuries associated with the tongue and the gums also. However, with the use of the mouth guard these injuries will have a less likelihood of occurring such as reducing your chance of sustaining a concussion.

With improved technology and new trends in the clothing industry, there has come to existence, select clothes that on their own, they act as protection against injuries to the players. They are designed with special reinforcements that have the ability to reduce the effects of any impact in case of a collision or fall. Additionally, there is unique footwear used that protect their ankles and feet from injury as well.

Just like in any other activity, there is a need for precautionary measures to be adhered to. Protective gear should be use in the field it was intended for by the manufacturer. For example, using football shoes which are for protection but using them for tennis will aid in injuring you.
